I have an Acoustic Image Clarus which has one channel and I also have an Acoustic Image Coda which has two channels and is attached to the down firing woofer cabinet. I bought the Coda because I liked the idea of having 2 channels and wondered how they attached the thing and then wondered if you could take it apart. Well, you can take it apart resulting in a separate amplifier and the cabinet.

I’m sure this procedure will void your warranty. I performed this procedure on a unit that I bought used and the Acoustic Image warranty isn’t transferable.

Here’s how you do it...

These four steps are all that are required to separate the amplifier from the cabinet.

I chose to take the handle off of the top of the amplifier and affix it to the cabinet. You may choose to leave it where it is, because if you remove it, you’ll be left with two holes in the top. To remove it, just use a 10mm socket or wrench to remove the strap handle from the top part of the amplifier and then use the screws and the washers used to affix the handle to the amplifier to attach the handle to the cab.

Reassembling the amplifier

Reconnect the power connecter that you removed in step 3, VERY IMPORTANT!

Reconnect the top of the amplifier to the bottom and replace the 4 screws on the top and the 3 screws on the bottom row of the front of the amplifier that you removed in step 2. This is done first so that it’s easy to line up the slotted connecter that joins the controls to the power section of the amplifier.

Slide the back of the amplifier in, which in affect connects them together electrically, and replace the 6 screws that you removed in step 1.

Test that your amplifier is connected correctly by connecting the power cord and turning the unit on, if you get the green light, well you’ve gotten the green light.

You will now notice that you have two open slots on the bottom of the amplifier and two round holes on the top.

The two slots on the bottom exists on the stand-alone amplifiers but are covered by two Acoustic Image stickers. One is the label with the serial number; the other is just a sticker that says acoustic image. You can probably ask the folks at Acoustic Image to send you two of the stickers that say Acoustic Image or you can find similar ones that are all black and stick them on to keep stuff from getting into the slots. The top holes can be handled in the same manner or you can ask the folks at Acoustic Image if you can purchase another strap with the screws and washers so that you can attach it to the amplifier. The last thing you may want are 4 rubber feet that you can buy from any hardware store to place in each of the four corners.

So there you have it, the complete procedure that I used to detach the amplifier from the cabinet of an Acoustic Image Series II Combo.
